How to Reach Jibhi from Delhi, Chandigarh & Shimla

September 2024·7 min read

Jibhi is remote by design. Getting here is part of the experience — but it helps to know your options before you start.

Jibhi does not have an airport, a railway station, or a shortcut. It sits at the end of a winding road in the Tirthan Valley, and reaching it requires either a long drive or a bus followed by a shared taxi. This is, in our view, entirely appropriate. The journey sets the tone for what follows.

From Delhi (by road)

The most direct route is Delhi → Chandigarh → Mandi → Kullu → Banjar → Jibhi, covering approximately 530 kilometres. By car this takes 11–13 hours depending on traffic through Chandigarh and Mandi. We recommend leaving Delhi early morning (before 5am) to clear the plains before heat sets in, reaching Jibhi by evening. The Mandi–Kullu stretch through the Kullu Valley is particularly scenic.

From Delhi (by bus + taxi)

HRTC and several private operators run Volvo buses from Delhi's ISBT Kashmere Gate to Aut (the key junction before Banjar). Buses typically depart around 7–8pm and arrive at Aut by 5–7am. From Aut, shared taxis run to Banjar (30 minutes) and then to Jibhi (another 20 minutes). A direct taxi from Aut to Winterfell can also be arranged — we are happy to coordinate.

From Chandigarh

Chandigarh to Jibhi is roughly 270 kilometres, typically 6–7 hours by car via Bilaspur and Mandi. Buses from Chandigarh's ISBT run to Kullu and to Aut. A cab from Chandigarh directly to Winterfell costs approximately ₹4,000–5,000 and takes 6 hours.

From Shimla

Shimla to Jibhi is roughly 170 kilometres, approximately 5 hours by road via Rampur and Ani. This is a beautiful route through the Sutlej Valley, though roads can be narrow after Rampur. Direct buses from Shimla to Banjar run twice daily.

Key Tips

  • Always carry offline maps (Google Maps or Maps.me) — mobile signal is intermittent after Banjar
  • The road from Banjar to Jibhi is narrow and winding; drive carefully at night
  • Nearest fuel station: Banjar (12km from Winterfell)
  • We can arrange airport/station pickups from Bhuntar (Kullu airport, 60km) or Aut — just ask
  • Contact us the day before arrival for final directions to the property
